NOUGHTIES HAIRSTYLES PART 5: THE CROPPED LOOK

It’s on the head of celebrities and on the catwalk this season. The cropped look has made a major come back. Inspired by celebrities such as Solange, Rhianna and I believe Grace Jones (the pioneer of the flat-top hairstyle). Here we will have a look at some of the celebrities that have brought sexy back with their short hairstyles.

Ever since Solange posted her cropped look on her my space page, it has become a fashion must have. Cutting off the weave and starting again with the short hair. She has also created a huge fan base for natural hair lovers. This became more apparent when she appeared on the Oprah show alongside Chris Rock (good hair). The complements were pouring in from the awestruck Chris as to how women can really be seen when they don’t have all that long hair on their head.

Another celebrity who has really brought sexy back with short hair has been singer/songwriter Rhianna. Since she came on the scene she has sported the trendiest look from the bob cut to the Mohawk. This woman has not been afraid of chopping her hair in the most outrageous fashion. And she too has created a huge fan base of followers: from the emo’s to the punk rockers. This season she has the hair cut on one side while the other stays long.

 The Legendary Grace Jones

This look has always been around however. From the legendary Grace Jones (the queen of gay disco). In the 1980’s she had her hair in the signature crew cut (or the table-top cut). This hairstyle became vastly popular amongst men in the 90’s. Her hair has always been either outrageously cut but always in a feminine sort of way. Some of her styles which are being followed or remixed are the natural pompadour.

In terms of the catwalk, South Africa this June hosted the Annual African Fashion week. The models were mostly in short hair or the lazy Mohawk.

So yes this look is back and creating quite a stir young women and older who are opting to have their hair short and neat rather than in long braids or weaves Beyonce style.
